Engineering Manager

NSB Omega is searching for an Engineering Manager for a brownfield project in Toronto, ON.   

Assignment Description  

EHS and Safety
Proactive approach to  Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) is a requirement and all key project team members are expected to put EHS first and act as good role model.

 Collaboration and Coordination

  • Be an integrated part of the Owner’s Team, leading internal engineering discipline team and managing external engineering contractor(s) through the project phases.
  • Be key point of contact with our  FEED study contractor during the FEED phase and support the process to contract the external partner for next phase .
  • Coordinate and ensure engineering progress both on internal scope and from external providers, ensure quality assurance and guidance to ensure required quality, accuracy, and adherence to project goals and all relevant specifications.

Managerial Responsibilities and Technical Oversight

  • Support recruitment of technical discipline resources according to project need and ensure these are well onboarded and work efficiently.
  • Review and Approve: Assess proposed specifications, designs, process solutions, equipment selections, and installation plans with the support of discipline resources 
  • Evaluate Solutions: Ensure the firm’s proposed solutions meet safety, efficiency, and reliability standards.
  • Resolve Issues: Address any discrepancies or deviations from project specifications.

Quality Control and Verification

  • Liaison Role: Act as the company’s liaison with the study contractor and other relevant third-party suppliers.
  • Ensure Compliance: Verify that design and engineering work align with project specifications, safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee quality control of the study contractor’s proposal.
  • Conduct Checks: Perform thorough quality control checks on systems to ensure compliance with project requirements.

Project Execution and Timelines

  • Oversee project engineering activities  to ensure adherence to timelines and milestones.
  • Implement strategies to mitigate risks and address potential delays.
  • Coordinate with all stakeholders to ensure smooth project progression and timely completion.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in engineering and management, with at least a few years in a managerial role
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with relevant codes, standards, and regulations in Canada
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration in the Owner’s Team and with external partners
  • Cross cultural communication experience is a plus
  • Availability to travel and to spend time on site during execution
  • Project Management Certification (PMP or equivalent) is a plus.

Preferred Experience: 

  • Process industry experience is highly valued. 
  • Experience with metals,  semiconductor or process industry and/or  systems including high temperature or powder handling is an asset.
  • Strong managerial skill set with experience in large-scale projects.
  • Candidates should have substantial project experience, managing mid-sized teams at the very least, and have seen projects through the entire cycle from engineering to execution.
