Senior Cost Estimator
NSB Omega is searching for a Senior Cost Estimator for our Client in Ontario.
Assignment Description
Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Sr. Cost Estimator to join our team in North America Eastern region. This role requires a deep understanding of the north American eastern region construction industry, especially on industrial, oil and gas projects and a proven track record in estimating and project management. The position will be reporting to Project Control Manager, and coordinate with team working from head office in Norway.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement cost estimation plan, procedures, guidelines and systems.
- Provide accurate and detailed cost estimates to support project planning and execution.
- Prepare Cost Breakdown Structure, its definitions in line with Company guidelines.
- Source pricing information for materials and equipment from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare estimates.
- Estimate costs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors, considering factors such as project size, complexity, location, duration, commodities production rates etc.
- Collaborate with project teams to assess value engineering options that maintain quality and reduce costs, presenting alternative construction approaches where possible.
- Develop cost databases, incl. benchmarks and metrics, and enhance reporting through dashboards to compare with internal/ external metrics and present to Senior Management.
- Working and collaborating with project managers, supply chain leaders, engineers to ensure possession of accurate information for compilation of estimates.
- Support supply chain team to develop pricing preambles and payment schedules for bidding.
- Participate in and support Cost Risk Analysis sessions by providing uncertainties ranges for quantities, unit rate, production rates and risk events.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, materials, and construction methods.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, communication, interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team and pay attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
- Familiarity with scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera) and proficiency in constructing precise schedules review.
- Aptitude for performing accurate quantity takeoffs both manually and electronically
- Adhere to the established policies and procedures
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in cost estimating within the construction industry.
- Overall, 5 years’ experience in major construction projects (1.0 bUSD)
- Proficient in Excel building macro, formulas and power queries, Power BI, databases, and ability to process and analyze large volumes of data.
- Proficiency in implementing continuous enhancement and contributing to team success.
- Certification as a Certified Cost Professional (CCP) through the AACE would be an asset.
- Excellent understanding of estimating industry benchmarks and best practices
- Experience with large-scale construction industrial and/or Oil & Gas projects.
- Experience with third party estimating software would be an asset.
- Basic accounting skills useful for the job are an advantage
Working Conditions:
- In office, remote and on-site (flexible)
- Visits to engineering offices, contractor offices and site for walkthrough and to meet team.
- Work involves computer-based tasks, periods of sitting at a desk, participating in remote and in-person meetings, and performing other related duties as required.
